Way of the Cross

Chaplet of the Way of the Cross

Chaplet of the Way of the Cross

The Chaplet of the Way of the Cross was granted to the Vincentian Order by Pope Pius IX and X. Later it was withdrawn by the Holy Office (1912), since the indulgences can be gained by using the Crucifix alone.

How to pray the Chaplet of the Way of the Cross

This Chaplet is a way of medidating on the Way of the Cross. On it, there are 15 groups of 3 beads, each, between which are medals representing the Stations of the Cross. An additional 6 beads are added as well as a Crucifix.

Beginning with the Crucifix, you bless yourself. On the Crucifix say (1x)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

An Act of Contrition

Beads 1) Prayer to Jesus Christ Crucified (1x):

Behold, O kind and most sweet Jesus, I cast myself on my knees in Your sight and with the most fervent desire of my soul I pray and beg You to impress upon my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope and charity, with true repentance for my sins, and a firm desire of amendment, while with deep affection and grief of soul I ponder within myself and mentally contemplate Your five most precious wounds: having before my eyes that which David spoke in prophecy: "They have pierced My hands and My feet; they have numbered all My bones.

Beads 2) (1x)

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them; and may all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

Beads 3) (1x)

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

Beads 4) (1x)

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Beads 5) (1x)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.

Prior to each group of 3 (I - XIV) , say the following prayer,

"We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You because by Your Holy Cross You have redeemed the World."

Then say, in each group of 3 beads (a-m)
